HUNTER GATHERER: Salvaged Stories of American Culture
Published by MW Editions, New York City, November, 2025
"Hunter Gatherer: Salvaged Stories of American Culture" is a multi-layered book of photographs of objects and displays found at American resale marketplaces. Photographs by David Ricci and text by Cheryl Finley interweave themes of consumerism, racism, objectification, beauty standards, pop culture, and Christianity, offering a commentary on facets of past and contemporary American society.
The photographs were made at antique malls, collectible fairs, and flea markets throughout the United States. No people appear in the images, but depictions of human figures suggest thoughts, dialogues, and narratives that transform lifeless objects and scenes into animated characters and tableaus. The book creates a powerful visual narrative that challenges viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about American culture and history.
