HUNTER/GATHERER

ENIGMATIC NARRATIVES

While people are rarely seen in my Hunter/Gatherer photographs, the human element infuses the images. After shooting at antique fairs and flea markets for several months, I began to include human and animal figures in the scenes - mannequins, ceramic figurines, illustrations, photographs, etc., transforming collections of lifeless objects into quirky, animated tableaus. Viewing these objects publicly displayed, offered for sale, and shown with other pieces impacts how we ascertain their meaning. In these milieus, in this ubiquitous sliver of the American cultural landscape, surprising narratives emerge from the juxtaposition and interplay of multiple displayed objects.
